RAYDON WHITLOCK
Chiropractor
DC, Mtech Chiro, CCEA, ICCSP, ICSC, EMBA
From the age of 3, I wanted to be a doctor and - as with many youngsters - I was completely enamoured with sports. So, my initial goal in life had been to study and become a sports physician of some kind. I had never heard of chiropractic until 1993, when I injured my back throwing a javelin at a school event in South Africa. I spent months in pain, gaining little to no relief from conventional methods of care. It became so bad, I was unable to compete any longer and I had grown completely despondent.
Eventually, someone asked me if I had tried a chiropractor and gave the name of someone to go and see. I was sceptical at first, but after having no joy anywhere else, I finally relented and made an appointment. The experience was incredible. the DC (Doctor of Chiropractic) took a thorough history, performed a physical examination (the likes of which no-one who had previously treated me came close to achieving) and within the space of a few treatments I was fighting fit and back on the sports field. This had me hooked and I now had a new focus in life: I wanted to be a chiropractor.
I started studying in 1995 at the University of Johannesburg and in 2001 I completed a 5-year Masters degree (Mtech Chiro), a one year internship and another year in the chiropractic community service (a requirement for all South African graduates) and was finally set free to follow my passion.
Now, 20 years later, I see patients of all ages with a wide variety of conditions and my overarching goal is to always understand the underlying cause of the patient’s illness and pain.
As well as having an approach geared towards a general family practice, I hold 2 additional qualifications in sports injury assessment and treatment (ICCSP and ICSC).
Since 2018, my wife and I had been looking to relocate and in August 2021 we met Michael and Linda, who have given us the opportunity to join their family here at Creative Chiro and fulfil our dreams of a life change and new adventures. I am looking forward to many happy years here with this team of wonderful people.
