Massage therapy is becoming more and more recognised as an effective way to assist in the management of a variety of mental health problems. At Creative Chiro we see many patients who have faced mental health difficulties at some point in their lives. Some examples include post-traumatic stress, anxiety of many types, headaches, eating disorders and issues surrounding bullying and domestic violence.

In recent years, the public have become more aware of mental health and the importance of a healthy lifestyle in order to maintain overall wellbeing. Looking for help, people are turning to traditional medical treatment, as well as therapies such as Massage and Reflexology, to achieve a positive balance between mind and body.

Not everyone realises that stress is a trauma for the body as well as the mind. Physical pain such as muscle cramps, headaches, joint pain and several types of inflammation can be made worse or even be caused by stress, anxiety and fatigue.

The Happy Hormone

There are several hormones in the body controlling our mood such as dopamine; known as “the happy hormone”, serotonin; “the calming hormone”, endorphins; “the body’s natural pain relievers”, cortisol; “the stress hormone” and adrenaline; the “fight or flight hormone”.

If we take the examples of dopamine and cortisol: dopamine influences mood and the ability to focus. By performing specific massage techniques in order to promote blood flow towards the heart, overall dopamine levels are increased due to an improvement in circulation and lymphatic flow.

Cortisol is elevated during times of stress, which leads to symptoms including sleep deprivation, anxiety and aggression. Having a massage helps to reduce the level of this hormone, leading to relaxation, improved sleep and the ability to think more clearly.

Massage Therapy can help to promote relaxation and stress relief by stimulating the nervous system and balancing suppressed hormones: serotonin, dopamine and endorphins.

Massage therapy is an important aspect of the patient care we provide at Creative Chiro. Our Massage Therapists are highly qualified in a range of techniques, enabling patients to be treated for a wide variety of conditions. From Deep Tissue to Ultimate Relaxation, pick the perfect Massage to suit you…

DEEP TISSUE

This technique focuses on the deeper layers of muscles, tendons and fascia (connective tissue). It releases chronic muscle tension and muscle fibres whilst relaxing and soothing the muscles. Deep tissue massage is therapeutic, corrective and can release toxins to help the flow of oxygen and nutrients and aid general circulation.

MANUAL LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

A technique using a combination of gentle pressure with a soft pumping movement in the direction of the lymph nodes. This process allows the blood and lymph circulation to remove the waste and distribute nutrients and oxygen back around the body.

MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

A stretching and rolling technique that treats muscle tightness and pain by relaxing contracted muscles, improving blood and lymphatic circulation and stimulating the elasticity in muscles.

SPORTS INJURY MASSAGE

Hands-on techniques are used in Sports Massage to manipulate the muscles, tendons and ligaments in the body to prevent or improve sports injuries. Sports Massage combines a variety of techniques including trigger pointing, stretching and mobilising. A specific therapy for pain relief and injury management.

PRE/POST-RACE TREATMENTS

Pre-race treatments will help increase flexibility and reduce risk of injury while you are training and a post-race massage will help your body with the recovery process after your event. Treatment may include stretches and home care up to and after the race depending on your needs.

RELAXATION MASSAGE

The classic stress relieving treatment that leaves you with the ultimate feeling of relaxation and wellbeing.

PREGNANCY MASSAGE

A relaxing massage designed for mums-to-be who are 12 or more weeks pregnant. It provides many benefits including: easing stress and anxiety, treating muscle aches and fluid retention, and helping reduce raised blood pressure.
